Business Plan

A business plan is a detailed document for the start-up or a new business. The business plan is a document which describes the past, present and future financial and operational objectives of a company. A formal business plan has a standard format. A business plan of a start-up describes business goals and strategies and also provides a blueprint of the financing and marketing plans of the company. This business plan is critical to the success of a company.

A business plan is one which includes the overall budget, current and projected financing, a market analysis and its marketing strategy approach. A business owner projects revenues and expenses for a certain period of time and describes operational activity and costs related to the business. These are done by the use of business plan. Business plans are also used to target changes in perception and branding by the customer, client, tax-payer, or larger community.

The formal business plans are created as a necessity for securing outside funding for a business, including SBA loans and private capital. Formal business plans include an appendix area that contains important supporting documents. The investors and loan officials of the company need to know what a business owner hopes to accomplish and the steps he or she plans to take to meet goals. This plan when drafted well can serve as a veritable road map to success for the business owner and company employees.

If a company does not seek outside funding the business plan is still necessary as the business grows and if it does not, the business plan is a valuable tool that can help a business owner understand the market and competition, keys to avoiding business failure. A company’s business plan should have a detailed description of your business, including the products or services you plan to offer, as well as expected expenditures and profits. The business plan also needs to include information about the manufacture of those products.
