Keyboard and Mouse

The Keyboard is the input device used to communicate with the computer. It is used for entering commands & data into the system.

Types of Keyboard:

• 83 – Keys keyboard.
• 84 – Keys keyboard.
• 101 – keys enhanced keyboard
• 104 – keys enhanced keyboard
• 110 – keys keyboard
• Multimedia keyboard
• Internet keyboard

Current Keyboard – Internet and Multimedia Keyboard:

Multimedia devices can be controlled using a single key and also internet short keys like www are available in a single key. These types of keyboard are mainly PS/2 type. To access these features we have to install the driver files given by the manufacturer.

Mouse:

Mouse is a pointing input device used to select objects or icons through cursor control. It is called mouse because of its small size, long chord like tail and quick scurrying movements. We use isopropyl alcohol for cleaning the mouse.

Types of Mouse:

Serial Mouse,  PS/2 and Cordless Mouse.

Current Mouse – PS/2:

           Unlike the serial mouse it has 6 pins that gets connected to the system. It is designed for the ATX types of system, which came into existence from Pentium II. Mouse is available in different types like scroll mouse, 3- button mouse. Nowadays a converter is available for connecting a PS/2 mouse to a system having only serial port.

This technology is used to free the other 2 serial ports on the system for adding other serial devices.

Monitor:

Monitor is one of the important devices of PC. I t provides the visual link between the user and computer.

Types: Monitor can be divided into different categories depending upon the signal they use for displaying the information on the screen. There are two types of monitor namely:

• Digital Monitor
• Analog Monitor.

Floppy Disk Drive:

A floppy disk is a secondary storage device, made up of MYLAR plastic and coated with a magnetic material. The most commonly used floppy drive is 3.5 inches. A floppy disk is always enclosed in a plastic protective envelope, which is called jacket.

Types: 3.5 inches, 5.4 inches.

Hard disk drive:

It is a secondary storage device. It stores data by using the magnetic recording method similar to floppy disk drives.

Types: SCSI Hard Disk Drive, IDE Hard Disk Drive.
