DIGITAL IMAGING FUNDAMENTALS

In day-to-day life the Digital Imaging has become a common activity. Digital cameras, Handy cams and mobile devices with camera have made photography more flexible than before. With this phenomena sharing and processing of data has become more easy.

With the increasing technology each day Digital Imaging plays a vital role in fields Communication and Entertainment.

The people who are involved in the above fields extensively make use of Digital Imaging for the growth of their business. Looking into the details how an image is created, how it is stored, who will be using or accessing it, and how is it used is very important for a successful Digital Imaging. It is very much necessary for a common man to know how the pictures are being stored or uploaded or processed over the mobile or over t he Internet.

In general Digital Images are converted into numbers in computers by using an digital equipment called as Digitization or scanning

Once the Image or picture has been Digitized we can use the computers for altering, displaying, printing or in any other ways.  These Digital Images are composed of pixels, which in term refer to Picture Elements. Each pixel represents the color, or gray level for black and white photos. A Pixel is a like a tiny dot of a particular color. . Pixels are like grain particles in a conventional photographic image, but arranged in a regular pattern of rows and columns and store information somewhat differently. A Digital image is a rectangular array of pixels sometimes called a Bitmap.

Types of Digital Images:

For photographic purposes, there are two important types of Digital Images:

Black and White: White Images are made of pixels in different shades of gray.

A black and white image is made up of pixels, which can hold a single number corresponding to the gray level of the image at a particular location. These gray levels generally range from black to white, normally in 256 different shades that is a pixel can be stored in single byte or 8 bits of memory..

 Color :

Color Images are made up of colored pixels. In this type each pixel is made up of three numbers corresponding to Red, Green, Blue, sometimes these are referred to RGB, which are also the primary colors, used for mixing the light. Mixing equal amounts of Red, Green and Blue can create any other color.
