River Survey
By running theologize and a tape traverse on a shore at a convenient distance from the edge of the water, the river survey is made. If the river is narrow, a single theologize and tape traverse is used. If the river is wider, it is necessary to run the traverses on both the banks and locate each shore by staid or plane tabling form its traverse. For the purpose of checking, the two traverses should be tied to each other at intervals by cross bearing. If the river is too much bent or crooked, it is not all necessary to follow it closely, the traverse may run in most favorable location and secondary traverse is run around the bank locate the necessary details.
Equipment for river surveying
The equipment required for river surveys are
Wellingtons
In some place of the river, the water use to be extremely deep and with wellingtons, the individual taking survey will get wet. It is one of the invaluable pieces, this is must required for river survey.
Disposable gloves
To collect the bed load particles from the riverbeds, disposable gloves are used. Even though the hand is covered with glove, the water still managed to seep in. We never known, what dredge up from the riverbed? Disposable gloves are used for this purpose.
Meter rule
The meter rule was light and easy to transport from station to station. It is used for measuring the depth and velocity of the surface water.
Stop watch
The stop watch is enabled to measure the time traveled, and is used to find the velocity of the surface water.
Measuring tape
The measuring tape is small and easy to carry. It is used to measure the width of the water and wetted perimeter as well as particle size. To measure the width of the river, one person should stand on the left side and one person should stand on the right side of the river. Both of them should hold the tape measure at the edge of the banks and should measure the distance across the river.
To measure the depth, the depth was measured every 30cm across the river and the tape measure was place across the bank tightly, so that 30 cm intervals would be accurate. In every position the meter rule should placed vertical into the water until it met the bed. These are used for measuring river survey.
