Hydraulics

Hydraulics is a technology related to applied science and engineering and it deals with the mechanical properties of liquids. Hydraulic drive and control are used relatively for a large number of technologies. Hydraulic theory is based on Blaise Pascal's law where he states that the pressure, in a static hydraulic fluid in a closed system is the same everywhere. Hence this concept is not new and was in use as early as 18th century. For instance Eiffel tower was adjusted using water hydraulic jacks. In other words hydraulics in engineering department deals with mechanical aspects of fluids. Liquid or fluid mechanism provides the basics for theoretical foundation of hydraulics. So the pressurized liquids are operated to drive, transmit and control the power in machineries. In short, theoretical foundation for hydraulics is laid by fluid mechanics.

Hydraulic concepts

Hydraulic concept covers a wide range of topics that go through science and engineering fields. Commonly used areas are mechanical engineering, car technology, agriculture technology, earth moving and mining technology, ship building technology, offshore technology and aircraft and space craft technology. In addition hydraulic plays a significant role in civil engineering. This concept is utilized in the construction of bridges, dams, reservoirs and canals. Nowadays more thrust is been given to this field and many institutions include as a specialization in the engineering degree programs. And more so some universities’ study program contains this subject not as a component but for the whole of duration. And with the development of mathematics pressure measurements and motion fluid analysis have been included which currently rectify the discrepancies happening during the process.

Hydraulics in Civil engineering

Experts from various countries like Egypt, Greek and Rome have attempted the concept of hydraulics in the past in their own techniques. And among them the Romans were more successful with simpler techniques but the Egyptians excelled. Since then diverse concepts have emerged but the hub is same. Especially in the field of civil engineering this tremendously assists in lifting materials for taller buildings, bridges and dams. We can say the most benefiting department of hydraulics is civil engineering. And today hydraulic machines are manufactured in enormous numbers adding innovations to relevant needs. The industry which produces these machines profits huge .Such powerful is the industry and the demand keeps increasing. So like the other spheres of civil engineering hydraulics plays very crucial roles and has turned to be one of the most inevitable aspects of the realm.
