Environmental Engineering

Environmental engineering deals with the science and engineering principles to enhance the environment, i.e. air, water, and land resources. This is use to provide healthy water, air, and land for human and other organisms and it will correct the polluted sites.  It includes waste water management and air pollution control, recycling, waste disposal, radiation protection, industrial hygiene, environmental sustainability, and public health problems as well as it includes the knowledge of environmental engineering law. In many universities the environmental engineering follows the department of civil engineering at engineering facilities. Environmental civil engineers mainly focus on hydrology, water resources management, bioremediation, and water treatment plant design.

Work of Environmental Engineers

Environmental engineers use to carry out the dangerous waste management studies to estimate the meaning of hazards such as, advice on treatment and containment, and build up systems to prevent mishaps. They will design the municipal water supply and industrial waste water treatment systems as well as they deal with local and worldwide environmental problem like acid rain, global warming, ozone depletion, water pollution, and air pollution from the automobile exhausts and industries.

Development of Environmental engineering

The environment quality is being improved, ever since the people thought of the health and their well being is related to the quality of environment. The early Sewers were used by the early Harappan civilization in most cities to prevent drought and to create a clean water supply.  In the mid of 20^th century, this field emerged as a separate environmental discipline.  Modern environmental engineering had began in London in the mid of 19^th century when Joseph Bazalgette found the first major sewerage system, which started reducing the water borne disease such as cholera. This reduced the waterborne diseases from death to rarities.

In most cases, as societies grew, the actions that are actually proposed to achieve the benefits for the societies had the impact for longer terms and it reduces the other environmental qualities too. One of the best examples is DDT (dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane) was made use to control agricultural pests in the year following World War II. Although the agricultural benefits were extraordinary and crops yield increased dramatically and thus helps to reduce the world hunger substantially and malaria was controlled in a better way than ever.
