Development of Buildings

In civil engineering the building refers to the house, worship center, etc, that has  foundation, walls, etc, and serves human being by providing shelter, protecting their own belongings,  providing privacy, and preventing them from weather, rain, storm, flood, etc. There are different types of buildings are available, some of them are educational building, commercial building, governmental building, industrial building, etc.  We can discuss about the development of buildings. These incorporate materials for constructions, Effective finance management and planning man power constructions.

Buildings materials

The earliest humans were lived in the cave, but later on they understood the need of shelter and made use of the materials like clay, sand, wood, rocks, even twigs and leaves have been used to construct buildings.

Mud and clay

The clay and soil is the good thermal mass. The clay is used make different styles of buildings. This soil and clay is very good at keeping temperature at constant level. Clay used to hold heat or cold and release it over the period of time like stones. This kind of buildings is developed mostly in Western Europe and northern Europe. This can be considered as the stepping stone for the developments of building.

Concrete and cement

In the recent period, human civilization has planned composite building material like concrete and cement. Concrete is made of sand or gravel mixed with cement and water. When it dries it gets stronger and hardens like stone. While the mixture is moist it can be poured into moulds and thus formed into different shapes. It is reinforced with steel and metal, because it is very flexible.

Glass

The use of glass in architectural buildings has become very popular in the modern culture. This shows the development of buildings in the modern world.  Modern buildings are using the glass, not only for windows, but often they are used as exterior building materials.  The huge skyscrapers with glass and other structures have become quite popular because of aesthetic appeal. The glass building requires the hold section of the glass. The main advantage of this building is, this allows individuals to see what is happening in the other rooms. Transparent glass also allows outside light to shine into the buildings.

Rock

The rock structures are the long lasting one, and it is readily available. Different types of rocks are available throughout the world.  Slate is another stone type, used as roofing material in UK and other parts of the world where it found. Most stone buildings can be seen in major cities, some civilizations built entirely with stone such as pyramids in Egypt.
