Agitated vessels

The agitated vessels are invented for producing the suspension of solids in liquid that are with uniform concentration. This agitated vessel consist a vertical cylindrical tank having the sidewalls and a bottom with the inclined surfaces which forms an interior for holding a suspensions of solids in liquid. It means for feeding solids and liquids to the tank. The stationary baffles disposed in the interior of the tank and extending vertically along the length of the tank. The rotating shaft is installed vertically at the center of the interior of the vertical cylindrical tank; a single turbine with the vertical blades radiating from the rotating shaft, the lower edge of the blades being contoured to match the slope of the inclined surfaces of the bottom and placed in the position, so that the lower edge of the impeller is close to the bottom and an exit port. At the lower power requirements the agitated vessel achieves the uniform concentration of the suspensions than the traditional designs and in the low shear environment. For handling floating solids and minimizing damage to friable products, this agitated vessel is particularly very good.

Background of Invention

Handling the floating solids is often an important aspect of mixing operations. For any number of reasons solids may float which includes low solid density, low bulk density and no-wetting characteristics of a particular solid. These solid floats on a liquid’s surface are exposed to air an experience effects such as air entertainment. The prior art devices positioned an impeller near the liquids or air surface to engage the floating solids and located atleast one other impeller below the surface of the liquid in order to continue mixing the solids as they become submerged. The agitation results in the application of high levels of shear for many operations, which also cause product damage, especially if the solids are friable particulates. The solid will tends to remain in the tank at the end of the batch and accumulate from batch to batch. This produces batch to batch non uniformity and finally be addressed by closing the process and cleaning the tank when the solids concentration of the slurry and becomes too high overtime. Agitated vessels can maintain a uniform suspension settling solids are desirable. There remains a need for an agitated vessel design which produces a uniform concentration of solids in a liquid inside the tank as well as in the effluent stream leaving the tank.
