Trade Related Aspects Of Intellectual Property Rights (Trips)

Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPs) is a worldwide treaty controlled by the World Trade Organization (WTO) which sets down least amount of standards for a good number of forms of intellectual property (IP) parameter within all member countries of the World Trade Organization. The agreement envelops all forms like of intellectual property including

  • patents,
  • copyright,
  • trademarks,
  • geographical indications,
  • industrial designs,
  • Trade secrets and exclusionary rights over new plant varieties.

Trade related aspects of intellectual property rights took effect on January 1 1995, and the most significant and notorious provisions in the TRIPS agreement concern patent protection.   • Analytical, remedial and surgical methods for the healing of humans or animals (Article 27.3(a)).
  • Plants and animals other than microorganisms and fundamentally organic processes for the production of plants or animals other than non-biological and microbiological processes. Any country exclusive of plant varieties from patent protection must provide an effective of protection (Article 27.3 (b)).

The world trade organization indicates three main characteristics of the TRIPS as standards, dispute settlement, and enforcement. The cause for the Trade related aspects of intellectual property rights are the intellectual property of the social and economic rights and balance the rights and obligations of the members.
