Cellular Micro Molecules

Introduction:

Cellular micro molecules are the molecules which is present in the biological unit called "cell". Cellular micro molecules are very essential for its life.

What is meant by micro molecules?

"Micro" meant for minute, as per this meaning micro molecules are the molecules which is very simple in its chemical structure.

What are the micro molecules present in the living cell?

They are many and here is the list of some important micromolecules

  • Water
  • Monosaccharides & Oligosaccharides
  • Fatty acids
  • Amino acids
  • Minerals
  • Nucleotides, etc.

Importance of micromolecules in the living cell:

  • Water:
    • Water is an universal solvent
    • Water is the mostly available compound in earth
    • All metabolic reactions of cell carried out with the help of water.
  • Monosaccharides & Oligosaccharides:
    • Monosaccharide is the monomer and Oligosaccharide is the smallest unit of carbohydrates.
    • They are the basic units useful for the synthesis of polysaccharides such as starch, glycogen, etc.
    • Monosaccharides are the form can be absorbed by the intestine after the digestion of food.
  • Fatty acids:
    • They are one of the structural unit in lipids
    • They are high energy producers
  • Amino acids:
    • They are the basic structural unit of proteins
    • They are the essential component needed during the process of protein synthesis.
  • Minerals:
    • Minerals are the micro molecules as well as they are micro nutrients which mean they are needed in very little quantities, even though they are very essential for our life.
    • Iron as the mineral is in very much use in the form of hemoglobin for the transport of oxygen.
    • Calcium and phosphorus are essential for the formation of bones
    • Sodium and Potassium are essential for electrical impulses.
  • Nucleotides:
    • They are the monomer of polynucleotide chain which is formed as DNA strand.
    • One of such nucleotide is ATP which is high energy rich molecule.
