The Great Chain of Being
The great chain of being is also called as scala naturae, which means stair-way or ladder of nature is a classical is a western medieval and classical Christian theory, which deals with the detailing the hierarchical arrangement of all life and matter, and it is considered to be ruled by the Christian God. The great chain of being consists of several hierarchical links from the most foundational and basic elements up through the maximum perfection, in other words, God.
God, and angles below him, both existing in the form of spirit and sitting at the top of the chain. Earthly flesh is ever-changing and fallible and the mutable Spirit, but, is permanent and unchanging. This sense of the permanence is important to understand the concept of reality. Actually it is not possible to change the position of the great chain of being or hierarchy. (One exemption may be in the kingdom of the alchemy where the alchemists tried to alter the base elements, like lead, into upper elements, either, gold or silver as the highest element.) In the natural category, the rock (Earth) is at the bottom of the hierarchy: this element just consists of the attribute of the existence. Every connection of link which is moving upwards includes the positive features of the previous link and adds at least one other. The earth or rock above the, just includes the existence. The next link is the plants, which includes of existence and life. The next link is the v which not just adds motions but also appetite. Man is both flesh and mortal, like those which are below him and above all is the spirit and God.
